In the 1960's, a prized Van Gogh painting suffered from catastrophically unprofessional treatment with a heat source, causing brittle blisters in the paint layer and rendering it on the verge of collapse. The owner agreed a loan request for an exhibition on the condition that it would be successfully restored. Through the lens of a Van Gogh rescue, this talk charts the process and challenges in the high stakes work of art conservation.
