Understanding Nabati Poetry: Tools of the Trade

Talk

WHEN November 11, 2013
6:30-8 PM WHERE NYUAD Downtown Campus, Abu Dhabi WHO NYU Abu Dhabi Institute Open to the Public

In a time when Nabati Poetry is undergoing a revival of interest and popularity in the Gulf, two of the most distinguished scholars in the field consider the history of this rich corpus, their own work, and how to view the present resurgence in the context of a deeply-rooted historical tradition. The discussion examines how to make sense of Nabati poetry and what research tools are essential to deciphering it, and explores the shared values and imagery with another ancient tradition: Greek poetry.
