Major galleries for the art of the Islamic world which opened at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2011 have welcomed over one million visitors to date. Presenting and interpreting the wide range of objects on display are some of the challenges and pleasures for the museum, which has developed rich resources in this area, from digital to print. A new walking guide explores the themes of history, religion, royal patronage, and cultural interconnection in Islamic art through the Met’s collection. In this lecture, the guide's author highlights some of the most important objects on view and their fascinating stories.
