Maestro Villani-Côrtes is one of the most prominent Brazilian composers of our time. He is credited with more than 700 pieces that range from solo works and chamber music to operas, musicals, jazz, and symphonies. His music has been performed in more than 40 countries and recorded in about 60 CDs. A music mentor to Celina Charlier for the past 20 years, Villani-Côrtes has created more than 10 original compositions and two CDs with Charlier. This recital combines the cheerful lyricism of Brazilian instrumental genres with the best form of Brazilian classical music. A highlight of the evening is the composition "Arabian Shifting Sands," which integrates sonorities of khaliji and bossa nova.
