Why did European classical music take hold in virtually every modernized society? And why is it that, at the same time, the audience for classical music seems to be shrinking? Young talents from distant regions and cultures compete to play Mozart and Beethoven yet classical music seems to be less and less fashionable and, for many, it represents an artificial and elitist culture. What is so right and what is so wrong with classical music?
