In today’s urban world, cities and metro areas are the principal source of economic progress for the global economy. More than 50 percent of the world’s population lives in cities and metro areas, a proportion that is projected to grow to roughly 75 percent. This lecture addresses the role that cities—the central organizing unit of our time—play in driving future economic prosperity, creativity, and human progress.
