The Europeans came into contact with the Arab world at various moments in history–Muslim Spain, the Crusades, war and diplomatic relations with the Ottoman Empire, and 19th-century imperialism. This lecture explores these encounters which gave rise to myths but also led to the influence of Arab culture on the West.
