Baroque Pearls: - Flute and Cello Recital with Celina Charlier and Fábio Pellegatti

Performance

WHEN April 13, 2013
6:30-8:30 PM WHERE Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi WHO NYU Abu Dhabi Institute Open to the Public

In the music recital “Baroque Pearls,” the Charlier-Pellegatti duo revisits Baroque music with a fresh interpretation. The program opens with two inventions by J.S. Bach, originally composed for the keyboard and adapted for flute and cello. The recital continues with three canonic sonatas by G.Ph.Telemann, originally for two flutes. These sonatas gain a special lyricism in the version for flute and cello; the sweet, melancholic sonority of the cello complements and highlights the brilliant sonority of the flute. The program also includes five Brazilian gems of “choro” style with a similar melodic and rhythmic structure to the Baroque repertoire. Inspired by and in tribute to J.S. Bach, a piece by renowned Brazilian composer Villa-Lobos, who merged German Baroque and Brazilian choro, concludes the performance.
