The Case for Liberal Education

We live in a world increasingly shaped by science and technology. Few things remain as they are for very long. Old traditions fall away, and old loyalties—to family, country and one’s God—are challenged by the novel opportunities and pressures of a global civilization unlike any the world has ever known. In this world what is the value of liberal education? What place, if any, does it have in the technically advanced, fast-moving cosmopolis that more and more each day is the home of us all?
