A memorial of Abu Dhabi's most distinguished son and a symbol of national identity, the Sheikh Zayed Mosque draws on the many diverse international traditions of Islamic architecture while integrating innovations in the detailed vegetal and geometrical ornament. This lecture will explore the international focus of the Grand Mosque's design and construction and emphasize the multiple ways in which it meets modern requirements in an era of rapid change.
