What is Liwa art and where did it all begin? Liwa Maritime Ensemble shares details about their art, its origins, sources, rhythms, instruments, methods, techniques, and the UAE practitioners of Liwa art. Participants will learn in-depth knowledge on the history of arts and how imported arts have reached the UAE. The workshop will involve a breakdown of the difference between indigenous and imported arts, maritime and terrestrial arts.
This workshop will be conducted in Arabic with English translation.

Liwa Maritime Ensemble
The Liwa Maritime Ensemble is a highly skilled group that specializes in showcasing various forms of traditional folk arts from the United Arab Emirates. This ensemble is affiliated with the Abu Dhabi Folklore Group and is renowned for its exceptional performances in maritime, desert, mountain, and coastal arts.
The ensemble’s repertoire includes a diverse range of folk arts, such as Al-Eyalah Al-Bahriyah, Al-Liwa, Al-Mald, Al-Ahlah, singing performances, Al-Nahamat Al-Bahriyah, Al-Eyalah Al-Barriyah, and Al-Madayma Art. The group is considered experienced in folk arts and regularly participates in official receptions for the UAE’s leaders.
Established in 1987, the Liwa Maritime Ensemble is an extension of the National Group, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture. All members, including founders and participants, belong to this prestigious group, and the ensemble boasts over 60 talented dancers.
The Liwa Maritime Ensemble has participated in numerous local, international, and Arab festivals, including the Al-Hosn Festival, Sheikh Zayed Festival, Maritime Heritage Festival, Sharjah Heritage Days Festival, National Day Celebrations, and the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2020. Additionally, the group has showcased their talents at the Taif Festival in Saudi Arabia, the Delma Maritime Festival, and even performed at the Louvre Museum in Paris. They have also performed in Tel Aviv, Korea Expo, Hanover Expo, Milan Expo, and many other events worldwide.
