Wander the empty corridors of the world’s largest shopping mall; visit the unmarked grave of an 18-year old Hells Angels victim; explore the greatest pet cemetery in the world; watch fog envelop iconic San Francisco streets; and spend a moment after midnight at Louis Armstrong’s kitchen table. Discover these unique experiences through a set of shorts from the hands of New York-based documentary filmmaker Sam Green.

Biography

Sam Green is an Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker based in New York and a prolific storyteller in short-form documentary. This evening program highlights a selection of Green’s shorts from 1999 to 2018. Green’s playful curiosity and eclectic approach guarantees something for everyone in this far-reaching ode to grief, ephemera, utopia, and life itself. Known for his feature films including the Oscar-nominated The Weather Underground (2003), which broadcast on PBS, and included in the Whitney Biennial, and A Thousand Thoughts (2018), which premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and is a live cinema collaboration with the legendary classical ensemble the Kronos Quartet. Co-commissioned by The Arts Center, it had its Middle East Premiere at NYU Abu Dhabi in February 2018. His previous film The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller features a live score by the indie band Yo La Tengo. www.samgreen.to
