Learn from the puppeteers behind Kid Koala’s The Storyville Mosquito.
Participants will have a chance to play and explore the basics of puppetry manipulation by creating their own characters with paper and tape. This workshop is interactive, and participants should be prepared to move and collaborate with others.
Biographies
Maggie Winston
Maggie Winston is a puppeteer, clown, educator and community engaged artist. She is the Artistic Director of Lost & Found Puppet co. producing original performances utilizing puppetry in many styles, physical theatre, clown, storytelling, music, and other multidisciplinary art practices. L&FPCo explores themes such as family, cultural history, human relationships to objects, nature, and spirituality. There are stories about beaver dreams, wolves drinking tea, the poetry of a Yiddish Montreal writer, and memories of Grandma in her recycled quilt. Maggie is a recent graduate of the DESS en théâtre de marionnettes contemporain at UQÀM.
Tyson Houseman
Tyson Houseman (b. 1990) is an Indigenous nehiyaw (Plains Cree) multidisciplinary artist, performer, puppeteer, designer, and director. He has most recently worked as a touring performer and puppeteer on various multimedia theatre/live video productions created by Canadian scratch DJ Kid Koala, and spends his summers working as a company member with the Bread & Puppet Theater in Glover, Vermont. He is interested in all aspects of performance and its creative process, from writing and design to building and realization, and is always attempting to defy preconceived ideas of human/object performativity. Tyson has a BFA in Theatre Performance from Concordia University in Montreal QC.
