Kate Forman Quayle

Kate Forman Quayle is currently Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music at NYU Abu Dhabi. Before coming to Abu Dhabi, she was a freelance performer and teacher based in New York City. She has performed with many ensembles in the northeastern United States, including the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra, Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra, Festival Orchestra of Oyster Bay, Metropolitan Wind Symphony, and the Westchester Symphonic Winds, as well as pit orchestras throughout the New York area.

She led the instrumental music program and band at Lacordaire Academy in Montclair, New Jersey and before that taught wind bands at several other schools in New York City. In addition, she had private students on clarinet and piano in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. Kate was Stage Manager for twelve summers at New England Music Camp (now Snow Pond Center for the Arts), where she also taught the Woodwind Class.

Since coming to NYUAD she has taught clarinet, piano classes and lessons, beginning saxophone, and coached several woodwind chamber ensembles. She performed with her husband, Matthew, at the Inaugural Event for NYU President Andy Hamilton in October 2016, and in November performed with the visiting Silverwind Duo.

Kate’s past teachers include Judith Kalin-Freeman, Ian Greitzer, Esther Lamneck, Dennis Smylie, and Kelly Burke. She holds degrees in Music Performance from Boston University and New York University.

Matthew Quayle

Matthew Quayle, composer and pianist, is currently Associate Arts Professor of Music at NYU Abu Dhabi, where he has taught since 2012. He has received commissions and performances from ensembles and soloists including Akira Saxophone Quartet, Alarm Will Sound, Albany Symphony Orchestra, Arditti String Quartet, Avalon String Quartet, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Claire Chase, eighth blackbird, Gail Levinsky, International Contemporary Ensemble, Silverwind Duo, and United States Air Force Strings. In 2001 he composed a movement of the ‘Round Midnight Variations, a collection of variations by prominent contemporary composers on the Thelonius Monk theme, for Italian pianist Emanuele Arciuli. His three string quartets, recorded by the Avalon Quartet, will be released as an album on the Naxos label in 2018. He was pianist and composer for Songs Without Words, an album of original solo piano music released on Albany Records in 2015. He wrote the music and lyrics for Amazed By You, a 2013 Indie album of original cabaret songs with soprano Marian Murphy.

Quayle has performed widely as a solo pianist and chamber musician, appearing at venues including Bar Harbor Music Merkin Concert Hall (New York), NYU Abu Dhabi, and Skidmore College. He collaborates frequently with cellist Jameson Platte, often joined by violinist Michael Emery as The Omega Trio. Quayle studied at Oberlin Conservatory (B.M.), University of Cincinnati (M.M.), and the New York University Graduate School of Arts and Science (Ph.D).
