Screening and Q&A: Sofia finds herself in a difficult situation and has 24 hours to get back to the authorities.

Sofia is a 2018 Belgian drama film written and directed by Meryem Benm’Barek-Aloïsi. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes, Meryem Benm’Barek-Aloïsi won the Un Certain Regard Award for Best Screenplay.

Synopsis

Sofia, 20, lives with her parents in Casablanca. Suffering from pregnancy denial, she finds herself breaking the law by giving birth to a baby out of wedlock. The hospital gives her 24 hours to provide them with the identification papers belonging to the father of the child before informing the authorities.
