An Evening of Flute and Piano

Music Concert

Tuesday, Apr 2 @ 7:30pm

Past Event

An evening of Middle Eastern and World Premieres!

Cristina Ioan, flutist and Ioannis Potamousis, pianist, both NYUAD faculty, present their first collaboration in a chamber music recital. The repertoire aims to create a bridge in the music for flute and piano between well known works by Poulenc, Ravel, Schubert, new contemporary works by Abu Dhabi based composers Matthew Quayle and Leontious Hadjileontiadis, and NYUAD alumni – highly acclaimed young composer Cristóbal MarYán. With this, reinforcing the idea that classical music does not only live in the past and that the present day composers are creating valuable work which we should not leave aside to be played by the next generations.

“My participation at the Manifold Concert Series is something I am looking forward to for many reasons. First and foremost, it is a huge pleasure to share the stage with concert flutist Cristina Ioan. Together we have built a program that demonstrates a variety of styles and techniques and features works by NYUAD faculty Matthew Quayle and NYUAD alumni Cristóbal Martinez Yanes. The program will include a solo piano piece by UAE based composer Leontios Hadjileontiadis, which combines contemporary piano playing with percussive sounding techniques. Finally, Manifold introduces fresh, unconventional, sophisticated ideas and interpretations and Cristina and I are delighted that we have the opportunity to contribute to this year’s unique concert series.” – Ioannis Potamousis
