In the near future, a time of artificial intelligence: 86-year-old Marjorie – a jumble of disparate, fading memories — has a handsome new companion who looks like her deceased husband and is programmed to feed the story of her life back to her. Like the best science fiction, Marjorie Prime’s uses technology as a mirror back on ourselves. Artificial intelligence, here, has a very human relevance: to family, memory, and love, and the film is driven by outstanding human performances from Lois Smith, Jon Hamm, Geena Davis, and Tim Robbins. What would we remember, and what would we forget, if given the chance?
