PASSING STRANGE FILM SCREENING

A documentary film directed by Spike Lee and Narrated by Stew (Notes of a Native Song)

The Movie tells the semi-autobiographical story of a young black man who leaves behind his middle-class, church-ruled upbringing in mid-1970s Los Angeles to travel to Europe in search of his artistic and personal identity, or what he calls the real. This emotionally charged story with its astounding original music, is narrated and overseen by Stew (Notes of a Native Song) himself. Spike Lee shot the stage production with multi-camera coverage of the event, including backstage scenes, and involved the audience in not only the text but the electricity of the ensemble’s onstage adventure.

Please join us for a meet & greet with the Artists before the screening in front of the Black Box, arrive early, meet the artists and enjoy a few snacks. We also invite you to stay after the film for a panel discussion on ‘Becoming an artists, expatriatism and the idea of home’.
