The NYUAD Institute has embarked on a multi-year research fellowship program in the Humanities. This program aims to help create an energetic, multi-faceted research environment for the Humanities and the study of the Arab world at NYUAD's campus. To this end, both distinguished scholars and promising scholars are invited to apply for residential fellowships at the Institute. Fellows contribute to NYUAD's intellectual community through research and research-related activities, including sharing their work in progress with NYUAD faculty and students and participating in scholarly networks engaged in ongoing research centered at the Institute.
The NYU Abu Dhabi Humanities Research Fellowship for the Study of the Arab World invites applications for its sixth Graduate Student Research Workshop, to be held April 5–7, 2027, at NYU Abu Dhabi. The workshop brings together up to 12 international doctoral students to present and discuss their research and receive feedback from peers and NYUAD scholars.

We welcome applications from advanced doctoral students who are currently in the writing stage of their dissertations. Applications are encouraged for projects that range across the arts, humanities, and social sciences related to the study of the Arab world, broadly defined, its rich literature and history, its cultural and artistic heritage, and its manifold connections with other cultures.
The Humanities Research Fellowship for the Study of the Arab World invites applications from established scholars for its Research Writing Residency, to be held at NYU Abu Dhabi from January 11-29, 2027. The three-week residency will bring together an international cohort of up to ten scholars to advance an existing research project toward completion. We welcome projects in all areas of the Humanities related to the study of the Arab world, its rich literature and history, its cultural and artistic heritage, and its manifold connections with other cultures. Scholars may work on any type of academic writing, including a research article, book manuscript, chapter, or essay.
The residency is designed for scholars who are already well advanced in a research project and are in the writing, revision, or final stages of completing it.

We welcome applications from mid-career and senior academics who are at least five years post-PhD, MFA or an equivalent terminal degree and have an established record of independent research. Applicants should normally hold an academic position at the level of Associate Professor or equivalent, or above.
The NYU Abu Dhabi Humanities Research Fellowship for the Study of the Arab World (HRF) invites early-career scholars who wish to contribute to the vibrant research culture of NYUAD’s Saadiyat campus to apply for a residential postdoctoral fellowship for the 2026–2027 academic year. We welcome applications from recent PhD graduates (PhD in hand between 2021 and 2026) working in all areas of the Humanities related to the study of the Arab world, its rich literature and history, its cultural and artistic heritage, and its manifold connections with other cultures and regions. We particularly welcome interdisciplinary research applications for projects thematically connected to existing research projects and initiatives at NYUAD’s divisions of Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences (see here).

Eligible applicants will have received documents attesting to the completion of their PhDs by September 1, 2026. Successful candidates will be asked to submit these documents prior to the start of the Fellowship.
Early-to-mid-career scholars with a strong record of scholarly accomplishment as well as early-career scholars with exceptional scholarly promise who wish to turn their doctoral dissertations into book manuscripts publishable with major academic presses are encouraged to apply.
All fellowships will be offered to scholars who demonstrate an interest in playing an active role in the intellectual community of NYUAD, in particular by exchanging ideas with other fellows, faculty, and students. The fellowships are open to scholars of all backgrounds and nationalities.
