Learning from Gulf Cities

Workshop

WHEN April 1, 2016
WHERE New York WHO NYU Abu Dhabi Institute in New York By Invitation Interested scholars please contact nyuad.programs@nyu.edu

This workshop reverses a more typical point of departure in current urban studies. Instead of assuming the West as “leader,” a source of private and public initiative that has consequences in the East, the workshop traces actual and potential impacts of eastern dynamics as they evolve intra-regionally and beyond the Gulf. Scholars, practitioners, and experts of different disciplines examine the state of urban affairs in cities of the Gulf, such as Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi. In particular, they deal with issues of urban planning, design, environmental policy, and labor relations, putting forth innovative perspectives for current and future urban studies.
