Health Inequities in the Arab Region: A Call for Public Policy Reforms

Talk

WHEN October 23, 2013
6-7:30 PM EST WHERE 19 Washington Square North WHO NYU Abu Dhabi Institute in New York Open to the Public

This talk demonstrates that health inequities, including those based in gender and class, are a serious development challenge in the Arab region, including the affluent Gulf countries and poorer nations. These health disparities reflect inequitable public policies. The recent uprisings should be considered as an opportunity for reforming social policies. Several possible reforms are discussed: pushing health equity to the forefront as a benchmark for social development, moving beyond the current monopoly of health systems, and redefining the role of Ministries of Health.
