Dr. Matteo Nori is a cosmologist with a background in physical and statistical modelisation of complex systems. He obtained a double MSc degree from the Sorbonne University (Paris, France) and the Polytechnic University of Turin (Turin, Italy) in July 2015 and his PhD in Astrophysics from the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna (Bologna, Italy) in March 2019.

His research activity is mainly focused on understanding the nature of Dark Matter and Dark Energy, which account for 95 percent of the total energy/matter budget of the Universe, by studying the formation and evolution of the Large Scale Structures in the Universe. In particular, he is interested in the numerical implementation and investigation of physical models that venture beyond the current, yet incomplete, cosmological standard scenario.

By means of highly non-linear numerical simulations, he explores alternative evolution paths of the cosmos, to measure the impact of different underlying models on the distribution of matter and the properties of (visible) structures.

Currently, his research is focused on the modelisation and implementation of bosonic dark matter dynamics, like Ultra-Light-Axions and Fuzzy Dark Matter, as well as Dark Energy models like Modified Gravity and Growing Neutrino Quintessence.

Dr. Matteo Nori joined NYUAD as a Postdoctoral Associate in October 2020, in collaboration with Prof. Andrea Macciò, as part of the Galaxy Formation Group and the Center of Astro- Particle, Planetary Physics. At NYUAD, he will continue to explore physical models of the Dark Sector and how these affect the formation and evolution of galaxies.
