Basam Dahy

Basam Dahy passionately utilizes geospatial technologies and Earth observation products, integrating geospatial and computational thinking into scientific research aligned with global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Previously, he worked as a researcher at the National Space Science & Technology Centre (NSSTC) and as an instructor for the Remote Sensing and GIS Lab at the Geosciences department, College of Science, UAE University. His contributions to diverse research projects addressed geo-environmental issues, incorporating various geospatial and biophysical parameters with remote sensing variables over space and time. Notable projects included modeling carbon stock assessment, invasive plant dynamics, and land use and land cover (LULC) change in the UAE environment. Recognized locally and internationally, Dahy was part of the team securing the UAE University’s Chancellor Innovation Award in the SPACE Category in 2021. In 2023, he clinched first place in the Best PhD Dissertation category for basic and applied sciences, focusing on climate change's impact on the Arab World, awarded by the Association of Arab Universities (AArU). During COP28, Basam launched a book titled Date Palm & Carbon Footprint, presenting a geospatial approach to understanding desert ecosystems.
