Meet the 2022 Hackathon Hackers

Meet some of the hackers converging on NYU Abu Dhabi for the 10th annual Hackathon for Social Good in the Arab World.

More than 200 participants from over 30 countries will convene at NYU Abu Dhabi’s 10th annual Hackathon for Social Good in the Arab World. Meet some of the hackers as they prepare to use quantum-based technologies to develop solutions and work in cross-disciplinary and globally diverse teams to share what they love about the nascent field.

Meet the Hackers

Teague Tomesh, Hackathon 2022 participant.

Name: Teague Tomesh
Home country: USA
Princeton University

For this Hackathon in particular, I am interested in working with my teammates and others to really dig into this question of “How can quantum computing be used for social good?” — and a follow up question to that would be “Can we use the NISQ computers we have now to make an impact, or must we wait for larger-scale fault-tolerant quantum computers?”

I love that Quantum computing is another great example of humanity’s ability to take our theoretical understanding of nature, harness it, and turn it into a powerful technology that has the potential to do a lot of good in the world.

I am most looking forward to meeting many new and like-minded people, and getting to see Abu Dhabi.

Dorcas Attuabea Addo, a Hackathon 2022 participant.

Name: Dorcas Attuabea Addo
Home country: Ghana
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology

I look forward to solving some optimization problems and quantum driven algorithms that will make informed decisions on student learning. The application of quantum sensing for energy applications is worth considering as well.

I love studying quantum computing because everyday is different. I get to learn new skills and study different areas such as science, math, engineering, and computing.

The innovation of projects in electronics, material science, medicine, finance and aerospace, and many more opens doors to cutting edge technology through collaboration.

I am excited to be part of that future that works with others and builds a formidable network to promote equal opportunity for the next generation especially women in Ghana.

I am looking forward to learning from all participants, building a broader knowledge in quantum computing and its application, and growing my network for future research collaborations.

Samir Abuisneneh, Hackathon 2022 participant.

Name: Samir Abuisneneh
Home country: Palestine
Palestine Polytechnic University

I'm curious about all aspects of computers and programming, but I'm especially interested in information security and artificial intelligence.

What I love the most about quantum computing is its great potential to change the world as we know it. I am looking forward to meeting everyone during this Hackathon and working together to make a difference in the world.

Nadeen Nassif Mahmoud Said, Hackathon 2022 participant.

Name: Nadeen Nassif Mahmoud
Home country: Egypt
Nile University

I have worked on deep neural networks for detection of saccade and other eye movements using machine learning and also participated in a robotic hackathon in Egypt previously.

What I love about quantum computing is how much faster it is in solving complex problems compared to a regular computer.

I am looking forward to challenging myself and learning how to problem solve issues quickly at this Hackathon. I am also excited to meet and make friends from other nationalities.

Minwu Kim, Hackathon 2022 participant.

Name: Min Wu Kim
Home country: South Korea
NYU Abu Dhabi

I am interested in the finance area and am currently working on a project to make algorithmic trading bots for cryptocurrency.

As high frequency trading requires fast processing, quantum computing has a huge potential in making a big leap in how trading can be done.

I look forward to meeting different people sharing brilliant ideas at this Hackathon.
