A Natural Fit for Renewable Energy

Tintié Koné, Class of 2022, is exactly where he wants to be — at the leading-edge of solutions in renewable energy in Abu Dhabi as an analyst for the consulting firm Guidehouse — a role he sought out specifically because of its sustainability focus.

One day Tintié Koné hopes to be able to contribute to the progress of his home country Burkina Faso where he sees “so much opportunity” in the renewable energy sector. His energetic nature in the lead-up to his first job allowed him to experience a range of opportunities that have helped inform his work as an analyst.

At NYU Abu Dhabi “I was everywhere,” he laughs while reminiscing of his time playing sports and getting involved in student life whenever he could — all while earning his degree in electrical engineering.

“I'm really at the forefront of the energy transition in the UAE. Being involved in different projects has been so eye-opening,” he says.

Major: Electrical Engineering

Current: Analyst, Energy Providers Segment, Guidehouse, Abu Dhabi

Eye-opening is a fitting description of his NYUAD experience too. Koné quickly discovered the importance of seizing opportunities that have nothing to do with your major. For him, that meant taking a business class, becoming Marhaba Week captain, and immersing himself in Greek culture for J-Term, to name just a few.

“Those are the things I really appreciate about my NYUAD degree, beyond the technical,” he says. “NYU Abu Dhabi puts you in a position where even if you don’t know something at least you know where to find the resources and people to help.

Staying active and contributing to the development of fellow students also gave  Koné a much needed break from the demands of academia. Maintaining a healthy mix of classwork and extracurriculars helped him de-stress, give back, and remember to have fun.

“It made the degree easier in a sense, having that balance,” he says. “I always appreciate being in a situation where I can empower and support people. NYUAD made me a more well-rounded person.”
