Luca Amendola earned his PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1994. He worked as a researcher at the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics until 2009, when he joined the University of Heidelberg in Germany as Professor of Theoretical Physics. Over the years, he has conducted research in the United States, Brazil, Japan, Germany, France, and Poland.

Amendola's primary research interests include theoretical cosmology, the large-scale structure of the universe, and general relativity. Amendola has authored more than 200 research papers, the book Dark Energy: Theory and Observations (Cambridge University Press), and three public outreach books in Italian. He currently chairs the European Research Council Panel PE9 CoG and is a founding member of the Euclid Consortium.
