Oren Hanner works on ethics, the philosophy of emotions, Buddhist philosophy, and the history of philosophy in classical India, studying these traditions from a cross-cultural perspective. He is particularly interested in different aspects of Buddhist ethics and action theory and the ways in which they can contribute to contemporary debates in these fields. At present, his research focuses on questions related to justice and collective agency. He is the editor of Buddhism and Scepticism: Historical, Philosophical, and Comparative Perspectives (Projekt Verlag, 2020) and book review editor for the Journal of Buddhist Ethics. Hanner holds a PhD in Buddhist Studies from the University of Hamburg (2016). Before joining NYUAD, he was a junior research fellow at the University of Hamburg and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley.
