Justin Wilcox is a parasitologist, molecular ecologist, and evolutionary biologist with a keen interest in the genomic mechanisms that give rise to the diversity of eukaryotic life. Recent advances in sequencing technology have provided radically new insights into the genomic architecture of vertebrates. His current research seeks to capitalize on these opportunities by applying genomics-based approaches to answer questions of diversification, selection, and genetic architecture in falcons — a particularly diverse genus of raptors of significant economic and cultural importance in the Middle East. In pursuing this research, Wilcox is informed by prior research experiences, including the study of bird song and sexual selection as an undergraduate at Knox College, the study of invasive carps and their parasites during the completion of his Master’s thesis at Eastern Illinois University and the completion of a doctoral dissertation on symbionts of long-tailed macaques at the University of Notre Dame.
