Emily Howells, Postdoctoral Researcher
BSc (Hons) James Cook University, Australia
PhD, James Cook University and Australian Institute of Marine Science, Australia
Emily Howells completed her PhD in Marine Biology at James Cook University and the Australian Institute of Marine Science in Townsville, Australia. Her doctoral research evaluated the importance of algal endosymbionts in shaping the thermal tolerance of corals on the Great Barrier Reef. At NYUAD, she works to identify unique characteristics of corals living in high temperature waters.
Emily's current research focus is to identify traits of Arabian Gulf corals that enable them to withstand extremely hot temperatures. She aims to apply these findings to assess potential climate change responses of corals at local and global scales.
