We do not accept applications from other degree holders.
Eligible applicants will have received documents attesting to the completion of their PhDs by September 1, 2020. Successful candidates will be asked to submit these documents prior to the start of the Fellowship.
Scholars may apply for one- or two-semester fellowships.
Currently, we are accepting applications for fall 2020, spring 2021, or the full 2020-2021 academic year.
Only scholars who received their PhDs within the last 5 years can apply for one-year (2020-2021) or two-year (2020-2022) fellowships.
If your dissertation was completed in a language other than English, you may submit the required 50-page excerpt in the original language with 2-3 pages (e.g., the abstract) translated into English. In this case, the selection committee would also appreciate an additional writing sample in English, as part of the eligibility requirements is fluency in English.
We do not accept supplementary materials with applications; any supplementary materials that are received will not be considered in the review of applications.
Applicants will be notified in early 2020.
We have a large (and very strong) pool of candidates, and reviews are performed by an international panel of scholars. The process is such that it is not possible for us to provide individual feedback.
The number of fellows in residence fluctuates each year. In general, the program offers up to six research fellowships each year.
At this point, we are unable to provide an exact range of salaries that will be offered but can say that they will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Please see the Awards and Facilities section for more information.
The program focuses on the Arab world broadly defined, which also includes the MENASA region.
