Senior Research Scientist Affiliation: NYU Abu Dhabi
Education: PhD, Institut National Polytechnique Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Ingénieurs en Arts Chimiques et Technologiques (INP-ENSIACET)

Dr. Alain Lesimple is a Senior Research Scientist in the Advanced Materials and Building Efficiency Laboratory (AMBER Lab), Department of Civil Engineering at New York University (NYU), Abu Dhabi.

Alain received his Engineer Degree from Institut National Polytechnique Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Ingénieurs en Arts Chimiques et Technologiques (INP-ENSIACET) in Toulouse (France) in 1989 and his MSc from INP-ENSIACET in 1989. In 1995, he obtained his PhD from INP-ENSIACET. His PhD research focused on the renewable resources valorization. He developed patented preparation process of furanic polyurethane precursors derived from vegetable wastes.

After the PhD, Engineer at Cognis, he developed a new class of asphaltene inhibitors with their onsite application. Engineer at Handy Chemicals (Canada), he researched new superplasticisers. From 2002 to 2010, as a research associate at McGill University (Canada), he specialized in Analytical Chemistry. From 2011 to 2017, he applied his knowledge of Analytical Chemistry successively at KAUST (Saudi Arabia) and NYUAD.

His research interests include new preparation process development and material characterization. His current research topics cover process development for magnesium oxide cement, morphology, and characterization of hydration and carbonation products, waste brine valorization. He also assisted in the set-up of AMBER laboratory.
