Dr. Abdullah Khalil was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He received MSc degree (2012) in materials and manufacturing from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Saudi Arabia. In 2013, he joined the Advanced Fibers and Biofuel Laboratory as a PhD student at Masdar Institute of Science & Technology in the United Arab Emirates where he worked on the microstructure evolution and applications of electrospun metal oxide nanofibers. He was awarded PhD degree in 2016 in materials science. His research interests in the past include the synthesis of various organic and inorganic nanostructures with controlled microstructure and chemistry for functional applications. He has also contributed to studies of the microstructure and chemistry of nanomaterials by using microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. He is experienced with using transmission electron microscopy to study the evolution of microstructure in nanostructured materials.
