J-Term Application for NYU New York and Shanghai Students

The J-Term application for NYU New York and NYU Shanghai students is October 15, 2018.

The application below is for undergraduate students from NYU New York and NYU Shanghai interested in taking an NYU Abu Dhabi January Term 2019 course. This year courses are offered in the following locations.

J-Term 2019 Locations

  • Washington, DC

Enrollment in the NYUAD J-Term courses is limited so participating students can fully benefit from the advantages of small-size, seminar-style classes. As a result, the selection process is very competitive.

Before you apply, we encourage you to learn more about NYU Abu Dhabi.

IMPORTANT: Please note the following guidelines before submitting an application:

  1. Students on academic or disciplinary probation are not eligible for participation in NYUAD J-Term courses.
  2. Students who at the time of application have not completed at least two semesters at NYU New York or NYU Shanghai are not eligible for participation in NYUAD J-Term courses.
  3. Due to logistical constraints, some NYUAD J-Term classes are open only to students from NYU Abu Dhabi. They are marked accordingly in Albert.
Deadline

The application deadline for J-Term 2019 courses is October 15, 2018.

Financial Aid

Tuition and other fees apply to all J-Term 2019 courses.  Financial aid is not available from NYU Abu Dhabi but may be available from your home school. If you have questions about financial aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office at your home campus.

Cancellation Fee

Please note: The application process for J-Term is very competitive and places in courses are limited. Any student who gets placed into a J-Term course — any course from their application list — but ultimately chooses not to enroll and pay the costs associated with the course will be charged a non-refundable cancelation fee of USD 500.

Please write a 300-word essay to support your J-Term application. Include any information you think would be of interest to the selection committee in evaluating your application. Please address the following topics:

  • What do you hope to gain academically and personally from participating in the NYUAD J-Term program?
  • If you are applying for a J-Term abroad, explain why it is important for you to have this cross-cultural experience at this point in your studies.
  • What challenges, if any, do you anticipate facing
