Carla Varona Cervantes is a Ph.D. Candidate in Economics at the European University Institute and an Associate Instructor of Economics at the Social Science Division of NYUAD. Her research focuses on human capital accumulation, labor, and gender economics. More specifically, her work is aimed at understanding the determinants of human capital investment decisions and in identifying the forces that lead to less than socially optimal education and labor market outcomes, with a special emphasis on the gender analysis. Her joint paper with Russell Cooper, "Labour Markets Implications of Education Mismatch" is published in the European Economic Review.
As an instructor she has collaborate with outstanding professors in courses related to Macroeconomics, International Economics and Quantitative Analysis. At NYUAD, she has worked with Professor Christian Haefke (Macroeconomics I, MSc in Economics), with Professor Peter Thurlow (Economic Policy), with Professor Michael Reiter (Numerical Methods, MSc in Economics) and with Professor Jean Imbs (Macroeconomics II, MSc in Economics).
