Kim's current work examines the normative question of whether the state can permissibly limit individual citizens’ self-regarding conduct to prevent harm to themselves in a liberal society, and if so, how such limits should be determined and reflected in public policy. She also has interests in normative issues concerning pluralism and moral conflicts in modern societies. Specifically, Kim interested in how to determine when adequate recognition of cultural and religious pursuits requires legal exemptions or accommodations. Her work has appeared in the European Journal of Philosophy, among others.
