• Bio

  Raed Shubair is a Full Professor of Electrical Engineering, affiliated at New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi where he is the Founder & Chair of the IEEE Chapter and Adjunct Professor of Engineering. He is Director Of IEEE UAE Distinguished Seminar Series Program, recipient of "IEEE UAE Award of the Year" 2020. He is Regional Director of IEEE Signal Processing Society in the Middle East and Chair of IEEE Innovation & Research. His academic qualifications include a BSc (with Distinction &class Honors) in Electrical Engineering from Kuwait University, June 1989: followed by a PhD (with Distinction) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Feb 1993. His Ph.D. thesis received the University of Waterloo's "Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Award" in 1993. Prior to his affiliation at NYU Abu Dhabi, Prof. Shubair was a Full Professor at Khalifa University, which he joined in 1993 until 2017.  His past affiliations also include visiting academic and research appointments at the University of Waterloo, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Harvard Medical School.  
  
  His current research interests include  RF/Microwave technologies,  smart integrated antennas and radio systems, mm-wave/terahertz integrated technologies,  nano-EM and photonics,  EM in health science and biomedicine, bioelectromagnetics, medical sensing, new EM materials, wireless sensors and networks wireless communications, adaptive array processing, machine learning, and computational methods. He has more than 350 publications in the form of US patents, book chapters, and refereed papers in peer-reviewed journals and indexed conference proceedings. Prof. Raed Shubair the ‘Teaching Excellence Award’ and ‘Distinguished Service Award’ several times since he started his academic career as a university professor in 1993.  . He was nominated for the IEEE Distinguished Educator Award of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society and received the ‘Distinguished Service Award’ from both ACES Society, USA and from MIT Electromagnetics Academy, USA. Prof. Raed Shubair organized and chaired numerous technical special sessions and tutorials in IEEE flagship conferences. In addition to his paper presentation at technical conferences, he delivered over 65 invited speaker seminars and technical talks in world-class universities and flagship conferences.

  Heis a standing member of the editorial boards of several international journals and serves regularly on the steering, organizing, and technical committees of IEEE flagship conferences in Antennas, Communications, and Signal Processing, including several editions of IEEE AP-S/URSI, EuCAP, IEEE GlobalSIP, IEEE WCNC, and IEEE ICASSP. He has served as a TPC Chair of the IEEE MMS2016 and IEEE GlobalSIP 2018 Symposium on 5G Satellite Networks. He holds several leading roles in the international professional engineering community. He is a Board Member of the European School of Antennas, the Regional Director for the IEEE Signal Processing Society in IEEE Region eight the Middle East, and the Chair of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Educational Initiatives Program.  He is a Fellow of MIT Electromagnetics Academy and the Founding Member of MIT Scholars of the Emirates. He is an Editor of the IEEE Journal of Electromagnetics, RF and Microwaves in Medicine and Biology and the IEEE Open Journal on Antennas and Propagation.  
  
  He is a Founding Member of five IEEE society chapters in UAE which are IEEE UAE Communication Society Chapter, IEEE UAE Signal Processing Society Chapter, IEEE UAE Antennas & Propagation Society Chapter, IEEE UAE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society Chapter, and IEEE UAE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Chapter. He is a nominee for the Regional Director-at-Large of the IEEE Signal Processing Society in IEEE Region 8 Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He is also a nominee for the IEEE Distinguished Educator Award of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society. He has been honored to serve as an invited speaker with the prestigious U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. He is a Board Member of the European School of Antennas, Middle East Liaison of European Conference on Antennas and Propagation, Member of IEEE Signal Processing PROGRESS initiative, and Chair of Publicity & Research Focus at the IEEE Machine Learning for Communications technical initiative.

• Bio

  Mohamed Ibrahim AlHajri received a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering (with highest Distinction) from Khalifa University, UAE in December 2015 and S.M. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, USA in August 2018.  He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT as a Research Assistant in the Claude E. Shannon Communication Network Research Group within the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE). AlHajri received several competitive academic distinctions and has completed his B.Sc. as the top student across Khalifa University. AlHajri was granted UAE’s most prestigious scholarship award: “The Presidential Scholarship for Distinguished Students”, upon which he earned his MIT Master’s degree and is currently pursuing his MIT doctoral studies. AlHajri is recipient of the IEEE Engineering Ethics Student Competition (EESC) 2014 First Place Award, The International Conference on Communications, Signal Processing and their Applications (ICCSPA) 2015 Best Student Poster Award, and the Educational Initiative Program Grant Award from IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (APS) 2020. AlHajri's research focuses on the intersection between wireless communication, information theory, statistics, and machine learning. AlHajri has several publications in peer-reviewed journals, and refereed conference proceedings. His research findings were featured in several renowned universities including Imperial College London, Queen Mary University of London, and University of Glasgow, as well as several reputable conferences such as U.S. National Academy of Sciences Frontiers Symposium. He has completed research internships at Global Foundries, Singapore in 2013 and at British Telecom (BT), UK in 2014. AlHajri has also chaired the IEEE Student Chapter at Khalifa University 2013- 2015.  He served as a Member of the Technical Program Committee in several IEEE conferences including MMS 2016, MMS 2017, GlobalSIP 2018, GlobalSIP 2019, MENACOMM 2019. AlHajri mentored MIT undergraduate students while they were on a summer research internship at MIT during their high school. He also mentored undergraduate students, who were on a summer research internship at MIT and have then joined University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign (UIUC) and Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). AlHajri has been selected to be Vice President of UAE-USA Global Youth Council (2017-2019) and has been selected as a inaugural member of the Emirates Youth Council (2016-2017). AlHajri is co-organizer of the IEEE-UAE Distinguished Seminar Series hosted by New York University (NYU), Abu Dhabi.
