Salem Al-Qassimi is a multidisciplinary graphic designer, educator, and entrepreneur. He is the Founder and Principal of Fikra Design Studio and Fikra Campus, and the Director of Fikra Graphic Design Biennial. 

Al-Qassimi studied Multimedia Design at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) and earned an MFA in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He served as an instructor at RISD, and an Assistant Professor of Design at AUS. His research investigates the contemporary cultural identity of the UAE and the region through graphic design and typography. He has participated in a number of exhibitions regionally and internationally and published numerous articles, reviews, and essays on Arabic typography, culture, design, and design education.

Al-Qassimi founded Fikra Design Studio in 2006 — an award-winning multidisciplinary design studio — and launched Fikra Campus in 2017 as a design-led communal space created to connect and enable creatives and entrepreneurs which comprises a co-working space, a café, a gallery, a library, and an active urban rooftop. Fikra is also organizing the Fikra Graphic Design Biennial — the first of its kind in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia— inaugurating in November, 2018.
