Edgar Kiser is a sociologist who has published in sociology, political science, economics, and history journals on topics including comparative-historical methods, the development of voting institutions, causes and consequences of warfare, the historical development of tax systems, and contemporary systems of taxation.

He is currently working on projects about tax compliance (with Blaine Robbins), the growth of the state and quality of government (with Steven Karceski), and pre-modern taxation.
