Lecturer of Music Affiliation: NYU Abu Dhabi
Clare Lesser is a lecturer of music at NYUAD. She studied at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London; Birmingham University, Birmingham Conservatoire and the University of Sussex.
She specializes in the performance of late 19th century, 20th century and contemporary repertoire, and has given over 50 world premieres. She has worked with numerous composers, including Karlheinz Stockhausen, James Dillon, Richard Rodney Bennet, Betsy Jolas, Jean Claude Risset, Michael Finnissy, and Mathias Spahlinger. Her latest cd of chamber music by Michael Finnissy for soprano, clarinet, and piano (released April 2016) has received widespread critical acclaim.
Research interests include: Semiotics and aesthetics of the graphic score, post-war opera, extended vocal technique, and early 19th-century performance practice.
