Transportation and Travel

The transportation sector is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. At NYUAD, we are working towards reducing our community's overall transportation footprint by encouraging walking, bicycling, and public transportation among NYUAD community members, while reducing NYUAD-sponsored air travel when lower-carbon options are feasible.

Public Transportation

NYUAD operates a daily shuttle bus between campus and key destinations across Abu Dhabi. Routes include popular malls in downtown Abu Dhabi and Yas Island, as well as cultural destinations such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Manarat Al Saadiyat.

For public bus travel, the community can purchase a Hafilat Card, which can be topped up on campus.

Bike-share

Bicycling can be a convenient, healthy, and sustainable way for many people to get around Abu Dhabi and Saadiyat Island. The NYUAD BikeShare program allows members of the NYUAD community to borrow bikes and explore in a fun, eco-friendly way. Read more on the student portal (login required).

Air Travel

NYUAD faculty and staff considering traveling on University business are encouraged to first determine if the benefits of the trip justify the time, expense, and environmental impact. If teleconferencing could meet the same goals, faculty and staff should consider attending via teleconference. If possible, a local subset of attendees could teleconference together. They may also consider how to avoid future trips by consolidating travel or meetings into one trip.
