Fiscal Affairs

The NYUAD Post Award Research Administration Office is responsible for planning and budgeting, grant accounting, financial reporting and compliance for the University’s research activities. They oversee the post-award financial administration of all research and creative projects at NYUAD; including internal research funds as well as external grants, contracts and gifts. 

The overall goal of this office is to facilitate the day-to-day management of research funding for faculty members and researchers, thereby optimizing scholarly productivity; this includes the management of research funds starting from the receipt of award till closeout which entails uploading funds, reviewing and approving funding rollovers, proper disbursement of research fund awards, expense approvals, review of allowable and unallowable expenditures, etc. This office also manages the application and renewal process for internal faculty research funds, as well as provide financial and administrative support for Research Institute center grant proposals and renewals. Additionally, this office is also responsible for the establishment and communication of effective sponsored program administration policies, procedures and systems.

Overall, the post award office supports the NYUAD Provost and the Academic Deans on all post award operations to execute the NYUAD Academic Strategy. They collaborate with the Vice Provost for Research Policies & Governance on the implementation of established university research guidelines & procedures, and also work in partnership with the NYUAD Finance and Budget Office, NYU Office of Sponsored Programs and NYU Office of Grants, Gifts, and Investment Accounting and Compliance to ensure compliance with established guidelines and best practices.  

Sinikhiwe Maphosa
Director, Fiscal Affairs

Niki joined in January 2022, having previously worked at McGill University, one of the top research universities in Canada, where she was Director of Finance and Administration at the School of Continuing Studies. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CGA). Niki earned a Graduate Certificate in Accounting Practice from McGill University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Laurentian University.

In her role at NYUAD, Niki is responsible for overseeing the fiscal affairs of the Office of the Provost and its respective units, including research programs. The Office of Fiscal affairs supports the provost, deans, vice provosts, and other academic leaders in their budget and financial resource planning, and provides strategic recommendations and supporting analytics related to finances and resources associated with the academic and research mission of the University. Niki also serves as a crucial thought partner for the executive director of finance and budget and the assistant vice provost of academic administration and planning, to provide oversight and effective administration of the support infrastructure of budgetary operations in all academic units.
