NYUAD Senate Participation

The University Senate is the deliberative body for the discussion of University-wide policies and proposed changes in University practices and structure. The Senate sets its agenda with particular concern for academic programs and structure, personnel and budgetary policies, development of facilities, and community, professional, and educational relations of the University.

Senator Responsibilities

  • Faculty Senators are elected for a three-year term from September 1 of the first year until August 31 of the third year.
  • As members of their respective Council, they attend all monthly C-FSC or T-FSC meetings, as appropriate, and University Senate meetings.
  • Senators serve on committees of the C-FSC/T-FSC and/or the University Senate.
  • Senators represent the concerns and interests of faculty, to report regularly on the activities of the University Senate and the Senators Council on which they serve C-FSC/T-FSC to their school faculty (e.g., at meetings of school faculty councils or in written memoranda), and, by reviewing
  • and responding to minutes and special reports, to keep abreast of the issues and activities that the University Senate and the C-FSC/T-FSC are addressing.

Full-time Continuing Contract Faculty Senators Council

The council consists of twenty-nine members of the Full-Time Continuing Contract Faculty and is part of the University Senate membership. The C-FSC may consider any matters of educational and administrative policy and functions as the Faculty Personnel Committee of the Senate with respect to the Full-Time Continuing Contract Faculty. It designates representatives on other standing committees, and in appropriate instances on ad hoc committees, of the Senate. It may bring to the attention of the various committees of the Senate any matters that it believes should be presented to the entire Senate, and bring to the attention of the President and Chancellor any matters that it wishes to discuss with him or her. It performs such other educational functions as are assigned to it by the President and Chancellor or by the Board.

Tenured / Tenure Track Faculty Senators Council

The Tenured/Tenure Track Faculty Senators Council (T-FSC) consists of thirty-eight members of the Tenured/Tenure Track Faculty and is part of the University Senate membership.

The council may consider any matters of educational and administrative policy and will function as the Faculty Personnel Committee of the Senate with respect to the Tenured/Tenure Track Faculty. It designates representatives on the other standing committees, and in appropriate instances on the ad hoc committees, of the Senate. It may bring to the attention of the various committees of the Senate any matters that it believes should be presented to the entire Senate. It may bring to the attention of the President and Chancellor any matters that it wishes to discuss with him or her. It will perform such other educational functions as are assigned to it by the President and Chancellor or by the Board.
