NYU Abu Dhabi Affinity Groups

An Affinity Group is a group of faculty and staff linked by a common purpose, ideology, or interest. Affinity Groups play a vital role in ensuring an inclusive environment where all are valued, included, and empowered to succeed. They can provide a collective voice for faculty and staff with common interests at NYUAD, and help us hold the institution accountable. Learn about the NYUAD affinity groups that provide ongoing opportunities to share experiences and traditions. Currently NYUAD has three affinity groups but looks forward to seeing this number grow.

• Black and African Diaspora Community of Action (BAD COA)

  BAD COA (The Black and African Diaspora Community of Action).

  BAD COA is an NYUAD Staff and Faculty organization. The purpose of BAD COA is to effect change by fostering acceptance of difference, varying perspectives and experiences, and create an environment of belonging. BAD COA provides programming, events, forums and various opportunities for fellowship, communication and learning. These activities are designed to;  celebrate culture, create a sense of belonging, foster engagement, enhance institutional awareness and increase professional growth, development, presence and retention.

• Egrobu - Emirati Affinity Group

  Egrobu: Emirati Affinity Group
  
  Egrobu: a warm Emirati phrase used to welcome people to be part of social activities, usually involving food and meaningful conversations. 
   

  Egrobu aims to cultivate a shared safe space for all staff and faculty to network, to have authentic and open conversations about the unique experiences and identities of Emiratis at NYUAD, and to create a support system that promotes empowerment and resilience.

• South Asian Community for Representation, Engagement and Development (SACRED)

  SACRED (South Asian Community for Representation, Engagement and Development)
  

  SACRED's mission is to recognize and engage with staff/faculty of the South Asian community within NYU. In keeping with IDBE initiatives, through SACRED, we seek to foster support and agility for our South Asian peers and colleagues towards achieving institutional equity, accountability, community representation, engagement and development.
   

  SACRED aims to create the first brave space for staff/faculty for our South Asian community that embodies a continuum of holistic conversations toward conscientious call-to-actions in making NYU a more inclusive and equitable institution, anchored in mutual care, respect and solidarity.
