Faculty Diversity and Inclusion

 

The values of inclusion, diversity and equity (IDBE) are embedded in all the work that we do at NYU Abu Dhabi, and are central to the University's mission. NYU Abu Dhabi is home to faculty of more than 45 nationalities. We believe that diversity is essential for excellence, and the Office of Inclusion and Equity (OIE) works to enhance faculty achievement and talent through creating a climate of inclusion and belonging that aims to recruit and retain the most excellent and innovative faculty in the world.

The OIE offers access to materials and resources, as well as hosts events and workshops, and is available for consultation. 

Our Approach
 

The OIE works in collaboration with The Office of the ProvostAcademic Appointments, and members of the senior NYU Abu Dhabi leadership to actualize these goals through multiple approaches, including:

Faculty Diversity Liaisons

In Fall 2021, NYUAD launched a Faculty Diversity Liaison initiative within each division, to enhance and further the Vice Chancellor's Commitment to a Truly Inclusive NYUAD. These faculty members have demonstrated a commitment to enhance IDBE within each division and at every level at NYU Abu Dhabi.

Faculty Diversity Liaisons are responsible for some of the following:

  • Assisting the division with strategies that support the University's commitment to building and strengthening a culture of IDBE and Innovation
  • Collaborating and meeting on a monthly basis with the OIE to recommend academic programming and embed strategies within the divisions
  • Overseeing the implementation of inclusive and non-biased academic search practices within the divisions
  • Providing periodic reports to the Deans
  • Working in partnership with the Office of the Provost and the OIE regarding progress and challenges in relation to inclusion and equity

Best Practices for Inclusive Search Committee Workshops - Resources and Registration

These 1.5 hour workshops (login required) developed by the Office of Inclusion and Equity and Academic Appointments aim to provide guidelines and effective strategies, and to discuss best practices for faculty searches for Search Committee members. Resources are provided for all faculty to review. All first-time members of search committees are required to participate in a workshop at the start of their service.

An Inclusive Classroom and Curriculum

The Hilary Ballon Center for Teaching and Learning provides NYUAD faculty and instructors with resources for inclusive teaching methods and course design.  

A Global Commitment to IDBE

The Office of Inclusion and Equity at NYUAD works closely with the Office of Global Inclusion at NYUNY, where excellent resources on race, racism and tools to support our commitment to anti-racism are developed.
