19 Washington Square North Faculty Fellowships

Thanks to the support of the NYU Office of the Provost and the NYU Abu Dhabi Institute, we are pleased to offer a new Faculty Fellowship Program starting in the spring 2020 semester.

Applications will be welcomed in fall 2019 from tenured/tenure-track NYU faculty in New York who wish to spend Spring 2020 in residence at 19 Washington Square North.

The 19 WSN Faculty Fellowship Program aims to foster and strengthen connections between NYU faculty in New York and Abu Dhabi, as well as to contribute to the academic activity of 19 Washington Square North, NYU Abu Dhabi’s home on the Square.

Accordingly, applicants are asked to propose a plan of research or artistic creation for the fellowship period that meets two conditions:
  1. It involves collaboration with NYU Abu Dhabi standing faculty; and
  2. It results in a scholarly or artistic product or event presented at 19 Washington Square North either during the fellowship or the following semester. Examples might include a symposium, panel, exhibit or performance.

Successful applicants will be granted office space at 19 Washington Square North; a $5,000 budget for the proposed project; and one course release. Fellows will continue to receive regular salary and benefits through their School.

In addition to organizing an event to be held at 19 WSN, Faculty Fellows will be expected to participate in regular (roughly monthly) luncheon gatherings to discuss the development of their research and project outcomes, where they will have the chance to learn from, support, and brainstorm with their peers in diverse disciplines. Fellows will be expected to work primarily from their fellowship office, and will also be encouraged to participate in scholarly life at 19 WSN more broadly, for example by attending events of interest that are organized in New York by the NYU Abu Dhabi Institute.

Information Sessions

Academic Director Ann Morning will lead two information sessions on the Faculty Fellowships in order to address questions about the program and give potential applicants who are not already familiar with 19 Washington Square North the opportunity to visit the space.
