New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an University Sports Manager reporting to the Assistant Director of Athletics.
The University Sports Manager position is integral to the success of NYU Abu Dhabi's Department of Athletics, Intramurals & Recreation. Its core purpose is to facilitate the development and implementation of a robust university sports program that aligns with the strategic goals of NYUAD, as well as those of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
The post holder will directly oversee the University’s Sports Teams athletic program of approximately 20 teams participating in 15 sports, and those teams' respective participation in the Abu Dhabi Sports Championship (ADSC), the university sporting league governed by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK). The post holder will also oversee team involvement in Abu Dhabi Inter-University Sports League (ADISL) and local and national community sporting events and competitions delivered throughout the academic year. This will involve management of fixture scheduling, team logistics and communication with league and match officials.
The role will involve creating and overseeing policies and procedures related to University Sports Teams. These encompass various areas, such as pre-participation physical assessments, the Student Athlete Code of Conduct, risk management, and the management of team Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Captains. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for delivery of bi-annual professional development sessions for coaching staff and student-athletes to embed the departments coaching and leadership development philosophies. They will also oversee budgeting and procurement related to participation fees, transportation, additional training, equipment and uniforms, as well as coach and officials' remuneration. The postholder is also responsible for all data collection, evaluation and reporting for university sports teams which will contribute to department assessment practices. .
The post holder will be expected to teach at least one Physical and Health Education course per semester.
On occasion the manager will be required to support the functions of the broader Student Affairs division also. The position will require evening and weekends commitments during the academic year.
The duties of this role may at times involve being exposed to data that may be sensitive in nature and require confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for the management and the successful delivery of the University Sports Team program.
Administrative duties including but not limited to managing fixture scheduling, managing UST budget, stakeholder engagement and communication (NYUAD students, Coaches, NYUAD staff and external partners), risk management, oversight of internal student employment opportunities, use of the university and department operational software and other key software, organizing travel logistics, developing training and delivery of coach development. Finally, providing general administrative support that ensures efficient operations, maintains records and materials accurately according to relevant department and university policies and processes.
Hiring, supervision, mentoring and guidance of NYUAD Athletics staff, coaching staff, team captains and student-athletes
Data tracking, analysis, reporting and assessment, using new and existing data sources, conduct data analysis in order to create comprehensive reports and presentations to assess the program's impact
Instruct at least one Physical and Health Education Class per semester
Contribute to the University and Student Affairs Division-wide programs, including admissions events, new student orientation, student leadership training, athletic instructor and coaching programs, and more
Required Education:
Bachelors Degree in Sports Management, Business Management, Education or equivalent training
First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain
Required Experience:
3-5 years of experience in Higher Education, Sports Management, Sports Programming
Experience managing personnel and oversight of programming areas
Experience in strategic program management within a sports and recreation environment
Experience sports coaching, teaching PHE or group fitness classes
Ability to develop interpersonal relations
Ability to delegate and give direction as needed
Possess a high level of motivation
Ability to work a flexible schedule
Ability to work well in a team and in an unsupervised environment.
Problem-solving skills
Ability to multi-task and work with frequent interruptions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in the English language
Preferred Education:
Master’s degree in a sports related field (sports administration, sports management, recreation management, sports studies, etc.) or working toward obtaining one
Holds one or more coaching certifications
Preferred Experience:
5+ years experience in Higher Education, Sports Management, Sports Programming
The ability to engage with a highly diverse student population
A passion for sports
Ability to seek new opportunities and develop external relationships in the community
Arabic speaking proficiency
