The Teaching, Learning and Development Lab in the Division of Science (Psychology Program) at New York University Abu Dhabi explores the role social contexts play in children’s development. The lab utilizes a cross-cultural approach to better understand children’s experiences in the home and in classrooms. By studying both similarities and differences within and across diverse socio-cultural contexts, we aim to reduce cultural bias in our understanding of how children develop, extending findings from WEIRD (minority world) contexts to include findings from diverse (majority world) contexts.
With our research, we aim to address the following questions:
What are similarities and differences in parent-child interactions across diverse socio-cultural communities?
What are cross-national similarities and differences in early childhood education (ECE) practices and outcomes?
What do these similarities and differences tell us about the most effective ways to support the early development of school readiness skills, within and across countries?
Working with faculty and researchers to advance their research work by providing Data analytics and research analysis support
Assist researchers with Data management including big data, data mining and database support and development
Support and advise researchers on Data visualization
Continually review data analysis tools and frameworks and recommend improvements to keep pace with continually evolving needs of the lab
Support researchers with coding and algorithm development
