New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Communications Manager, Office of the Provost, reporting j to the Vice Provost for NYUAD and the Director of Strategic Communications for NYUAD. 

The Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing the communications needs of the Office of the Provost and collaborating with External Relations to manage internal and external academic and faculty-related communications and media relations activity.  

The position assists with the development and coordination of strategic communications for the Office of the Provost, with a specific focus on the regular development of academic strategy and faculty-related communications, including announcements, internal and external speeches, presentations, talking points, video scripts, blog posts, FAQs, op-eds, and essays. The incumbent manages the creation of communications content and recommends optimal existing channels to maximize engagement both internally and externally.

The person in this position works closely with the Director of Strategic Communications and collaborates with colleagues in the Office of External Relations, while building and maintaining affiliations with internal stakeholders and developing relationships with key personnel and divisions across campus.

This position often handles highly sensitive and confidential information, which requires discretion, tact and carefully weighed responses, often without warning or preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and editing of speeches, comments, presentations, quotes, talking points or scripts for live or recorded delivery, testimony, and statements
  • Develop messaging in support of priority projects and initiatives in the Office of the Provost for all channels, including websites, news sites, social media, and other digital and printed material
  • In conjunction with the Vice Provost and Director of Strategic Communications, curate, coordinate, develop, review and approve announcements, messages, newsletter items and other related content on behalf of the Office of the Provost
  • Work closely with colleagues across campus and the strategic engagement and community outreach units in External relations to incorporate priorities from the Office of the Provost in outreach activities
  • Provide content in support of responses to public, community and media inquiries, and preparation for internal community meetings and town halls
  • Produce reports and presentations as required for Provost office

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English Literature, Journalism, Creative Writing, or a related field in the Humanities or Social Sciences

Required Experience:

  • At least three years in a communications, journalism or similar public-facing role
  • Experience with and understanding of executive communications in government, politics, non-profit, corporate or other, equivalent settings
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in politically sensitive and high-pressure environments
  • Demonstrated ability to build and motivate teams, and work effectively in a team in a lead or support role
  • Communicating effectively, assertively and diplomatically
  • Leading and collaborating with various teams, drafting messaging and disseminating accurate information in a timely fashion
  • Converting complex subjects into easy to understand communications for the general public
  • Collaborating, interacting and communicating clearly and calmly with colleagues in a fast-paced setting
  • Demonstrated creativity and strategic agility
  • Outstanding writing, editing and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with digital media production and platforms, including online content management systems and related applications
  • Working knowledge of social media content development, distribution and monitoring
  • Working knowledge of professional presentation tools, including related content development
