New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an Assistant Dean of Students and Senior Director of the Career Development Center, reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students.

NYUAD’s Division of Campus Life brings together multiple functional areas within student affairs to provide students with the structure, resources, and support to maximize their educational experience and reach their full potential. The Division of Campus Life plays a crucial role in shaping the out-of-classroom experience for a highly diverse (120+ nationalities) residential population of 1600+ undergraduate students.
The Senior Director will provide strategic direction and management of the Career Development Center, which includes three separate functions that serve both undergraduate and graduate /postdoctoral students: (a) pre-professional advising, (b) global award advising, and (c) career exploration and education. S/he will direct an array of innovative programs and services to serve the university’s diverse student population’s unique career interests and connect them with opportunities to help them move forward with their next steps. S/he will also liaise with NYU Shanghai and NYU’s Wasserman Center for Career Development in New York City.
The Senior Director and her/his staff advises and mentors students, engages faculty and staff in collaborative and supportive efforts related to career development for students, and creates and implements programs, services and online resources to facilitate and enhance student/alumni career development on and off campus and, through effective use of the internet and inter-university collaborations around the world. S/he stays current on national and international trends, and ensures that national and international opportunities are promoted, educating students, faculty and staff on industry and market trends as necessary.
The Senior Director consults with academic deans and faculty colleagues to demonstrate skill development that takes place in the classroom, lab, and studio environments and solicits input in shaping co-curricular efforts that help students and graduates secure research assistantships, internships, and employment. S/he also consults and works closely with colleagues in a variety of campus offices including Human Resources, Government and Industry Relations, Community Outreach, Global Education, Campus Life, Residential Education, etc. to coordinate outreach efforts and to enhance skills development opportunities in student leadership and employment activities.
As Assistant Dean of Students, this role will oversee a suite of programs, events, and communications related to the senior class with particular attention to guiding students through their transition to post-university life. S/he oversees the Program Manager (Dean of Students Office) in the planning, coordination, delivery, and assessment of initiatives for graduating seniors, and partners closely with Alumni Relations, University Events, and other key stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition experience for graduating students.
As Assistant Dean of Students, this role will lead efforts across the Campus Life Division related to staff professional development and industry engagement, including oversight of funding for staff learning and development and working with Campus Life colleagues to identify, plan, and execute presentations / marketing opportunities at relevant conferences / events. S/he will serve as a resource for Campus Life colleagues related to professional development opportunities, and will work closely with each department in Campus Life to support training and development needs are being met.
As a member of the Associate Vice Chancellor’s senior leadership team, this role participates in strategic planning and policy development for Campus Life, and develops solutions and strategies that meet a variety of institutional interests and needs. This includes serving as a conduct hearing officer, on-call responsibilities for crisis management & emergency response, outreach to student leadership groups (i.e. Student Government, RA’s, student workers, etc), and support for NYU students from New York and Shanghai who are studying in Abu Dhabi along with graduate and postdoctoral students.
This role is an active contributor to University and Division-wide programs, including admissions events, new student orientation, student leadership trainings, athletic programs, and more. This role requires frequent evening and weekend activities throughout the academic year, including serving in a senior, on-call rotation capacity each month.
The title of Associate Dean of Students may be considered for candidates with additional experience and/or expertise.
