New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint a Solutions Architect reporting into the Associate Director, IT Infrastructure and Operations.

The Solutions Architect will be responsible for interfacing with multiple stakeholders within NYUAD in order to understand the various requirements, the viable technologies, and anticipated systems design development.  The role will be responsible to provide planning and direction for the development of Infrastructure systems and corresponding technology platforms to support the successful delivery of IT services, IT operational and service improvement plans.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Understand business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state), and determine corresponding enterprise system designs and change requirements to drive NYUAD’s targeted business outcomes
  • Provide consulting support to other business units within projects to ensure the project is aligned with the overall enterprise architecture
  • Understand technology trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business and operating models
  • Define the principles, guidelines, standards and solution patterns to ensure solution decisions are aligned with the enterprise's future-state architecture vision
  • Define, develop and maintain enterprise technology artifacts as part of the overall enterprise architecture.
  • Work with the program management office to technically assess and review demands and to ensure the execution of plans corresponds with what is being promised
  • Lead and oversee the solution engineering activities for new services or requirements.
  • Support the service management function on the service transition process by ensuring all required activities are conducted and documentations are properly developed and submitted
  • Effectively communicate to build good relationships with teams and stakeholders at all levels (i.e., management, colleagues, employees, service providers and third parties)
  • Develop multiple design alternatives based on identified constraints (such as cost, schedule, space, power, usability, reliability, maintainability, availability, etc.), and selecting the most suitable design option in line with NYUAD enterprise architecture
  • Oversee the overall architecture systems and technology roadmap of NYUAD infrastructure (to include network, storage, backup, servers, etc.), and ensures the maximum return on IT investment and the minimum risk associated with introduction of new technologies are achieved
  • Ensure the development and migration to new architectures and platforms are executed as per the business plans
  • Ensure that the necessary measures are taken during the design development of the underlying IT architecture, standardized systems infrastructure, communication protocols, databases and operating systems to protect NUYAD against security breaches
  • Represent NYUAD IT department to NYUAD internal and external business like, during the development of IT technical solutions for add, move and change to the IT environment, as well as software/systems development and technology operations processes
  • Assists in the development of a comprehensive disaster recovery and contingency plans
  • Stay current with advances in relevant technologies and challenge to identify new technologies that can demonstrate improvements to NYUAD end user experience
  • Review the IT systems capacity, performance, and availability metrics, including analysis and trending
  • reports to provide recommendation in areas such as cost recovery, operational, process, and service enhancements and/or improvements
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and tactical solutions with regards to current and future system infrastructure and works with partners to extend and improve the levels of IT service for students, researchers, faculty and staff in support of the University's mission
  • Provide oversight for Infrastructure services, including operations, technologies, processes and costs to deliver a high functioning business unit
  • Promote the development and awareness of innovative technologies and technology services for the advancement of teaching, learning and research through leveraging infrastructure computing technology
  • Maintain expertise in new and emerging administrative and instructional technologies as well as teaching and learning issues in higher education in order to add value to the business unit
  • Develop and maintain a robust governance structure that supports the objectives of the business unit and supports the NYUAD audit lifecycle
  • Manage, monitor and review the relationships and performance of relevant teams from the managed service provider
  • Establish and promote a culture of awareness with respect to enterprise architecture
  • Serve as technical liaison to NYUAD stakeholders
  • Collaborate with NYU-IT to develop overall system architectures, frameworks and standards to meet NYUAD needs. Architect, design and develop system elements (e.g. systems, virtual environments, storage)
  • Identify system enhancements and recommending purchases of hardware and software. Negotiate with vendors for cost-effective hardware and software acquisitions

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field
  • Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF)
  • Project Management: PMP or PRINCE2
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) foundation

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of in depth system infrastructure experience
  • 3 years of solution architecture experience
  • Working knowledge of Enterprise Architecture methodologies and frameworks
  • Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)
  • Experienced in presenting and explaining views to stakeholder at all levels from technical/IT staff to director and cabinet level.
  • Familiar with infrastructure implementation/management, service/operations management, ITIL, etc
  • Excellent understanding of enterprise IT including cloud, networks, compute and storage and end user computing
  • Ability to manage a diverse set of stakeholders in both technical and non-technical environments
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills
  • Effective organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow up.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work related information, materials, and staff/student sensitive data
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others
  • Ability to work autonomously with little supervision
  • Good understanding of ISO 20001 and 27001
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Advanced experience with operating systems such as Windows and Linux
  • Experience with various virtualization and storage technologies
  • Knowledge of a variety of current and emerging technologies
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
  • 3 years plus working within a higher education IT environment
  • Having a technical background in delivering services within an enterprise infrastructure environment
  • 5 years of experience working within the region
